Virtual Fracture Clinic
Following attendance at Raigmore Hospital Emergency Department you may be referred to the Virtual Fracture Clinic (VFC). As the term suggest this is a virtual clinic and patients do not need to attend in person.
At the VFC your case and X-rays will be reviewed by an Orthopaedic Consultant and you will be contacted by phone with the outcome of the discussion, and given advice by our specialist nurse.
You will be contacted before 12pm on the day that your case is discussed. You may be contacted from an 0800 number or a mobile number. Please do not contact the fracture helpline unless you are NOT called within that time.
During the phone call you may be given advice and discharged over the phone, with the option to call back if you have any further problems or questions, or you will be given a face-to-face appointment within the orthopaedic service.
Fracture clinics (in-person)
Following the VFC outcome, you may be given an appointment to attend one of our fracture clinics within Raigmore Hospital in Inverness. These are run within the outpatient clinics at Raigmore. You will need to check in at the reception desk on arrival, with your appointment letter.
These clinics are run by Orthopaedic Consultants and experienced Advanced Physiotherapists who specialise in acute orthopaedic injuries. Which clinic you are seen in is determined by the Consultant who reviews your case at VFC.
Patients attending these clinics are those who have had an accident, so there can be many patients attending at the same time. The nurses will keep you up to date if the clinics are running longer than expected. It is helpful if you have something to eat before you come, and take your normal medicines. It is also helpful to bring a list of medications that you are currently taking.
