What keeps me healthy

There are lots of things you can do to stay healthy.

Things that keep your bowel healthy

Fruit and vegetables

Try to eat fruit and vegetables every day.

Fibre

Try to eat food that has fibre in it, like:

  • brown rice
  • porridge
  • wholewheat bread and pasta
A sliced loaf of wholemeal bread

Alternatives to red meat

If you eat lots of red meat trying swapping some meals for chicken or fish. They healthy sources of protein and better for your bowel.

Water

Drinking 6-8 glasses of water every day.

Weight

Keeping to a healthy weight.

Exercise

Being more active in everyday life, this includes walking more and sitting less.

Too much meat

Try to eat less processed meat like ham, sausages, bacon and burgers.

Try eating less red meat like beef, pork and lamb

Try swapping these sometimes for chicken or fish.

Too much alcohol

Drinking a lot of alcohol.

Smoking
