Results of your test

After you send your poo sample in the post, you will be sent your results within 14 days.

If everything looks OK, you will be sent another test in 2 years.

If there is blood in your poo a nurse will phone you to talk to you about your result.

She will let you know if you need to go for more tests or not.

Why do I have blood in my poo?

Your poo could contain blood for a number or reasons, like:

  • Haemorrhoids or piles. These are not usually serious.
  • Bowel polyps. These are not usually serious but some polyps can turn into bowel cancer.
  • Bowel cancer. This can be serious if not found early.

Further test

If you need further tests this is usually a test called a colonoscopy.

It helps to find out why there is blood in your poo.

You can find more information on the next page (Further tests).
