Adult social care
On this page
Adult social work and social care is about meeting people's needs and outcomes. It is here to support people - as much as possible - to live ordinary lives.
Important: Contact details
See a Single Point of Contact (SPOC) in each Highland HSCP district for answering questions.
These contacts represent integrated teams within community health services, including adult social care:
- social work
- care homes
- care at home
- day care
Important: Adult support and protection
If you have concerns about a vulnerable adult, find how to report a concern and more adult protection information.
Our work
The work we do aims to support people to:
- live independently
- be active citizens
- participate and contribute to our society
- maintain their dignity and human rights
We are committed to supporting people to stay at home or in a homely setting with maximum independence, for as long as possible. We also aim to retain the right people to work in social care support and social work, and to raise the status of social care as a profession.
If you think you or someone you know needs support you can make contact with one of our adult social care teams.
Self-directed support is the way we deliver that care in Highland. It has the aim of enabling people to live their life to the full, as equal, confident and valued citizens.
We believe adopting the ethos of self-directed support can lead to the development of a healthier population living within more vibrant communities, and is key to achieving a fairer Highland. When working with individuals we seek to put the principles of independent living into practice to enable people to be active citizens in their communities.
Like the social model of disability our ethos for self-directed support can be seen to contribute to the reduction or removal of the physical, organisational or attitudinal barriers that many people experience in the world around them. Our approach to delivering adult social care, then, is about flexibility, choice and control and supporting people with needs to have a decent quality of life.
