Volunteering
On this page
The support and dedication of our growing volunteer workforce is greatly appreciated by all.
Volunteers continue to make a positive contribution by adding value to the patient experience and by supporting our busy clinical workforce.

The benefits of volunteering
Volunteering can help you to learn new skills, improve your employability, access training opportunities, gain valuable life experience and meet new friends in a supportive environment. It can also help considerably with applications to College and University.
Helping Highland Volunteers - current roles
Our current volunteer roles are available across NHS Highland - both Highland HSCP and Argyll and Bute HSCP areas. Roles fall under the following categories:
- Meaningful activities - supporting elderly patients who live with Dementia and other cognitive impairments – a massive crowd-pleaser for its positive impact on lonely, vulnerable patients.
- Ward volunteers - volunteers get to role their sleeves up during mealtime to help serve hungry patients. Energetic volunteers can also help with teas and coffees - a great opportunity to be part of the ward team during a busy, challenging part of the long day.
- Wayfinding volunteers - accompanying patients to their appointment in our busy outpatients department, ensuring they arrive on time and in good spirits – an excellent way to get your steps in and be first point of contact for grateful patients.
- Volunteer drivers - providing an invaluable service for those patients who can’t access an appropriate mode of transport – a satisfying way to support your local community and its elderly and disadvantaged residents.
