About the National Treatment Centre - Highland

Situated at the heart of the Inverness Campus, the new centre hosts NHS Highland’s entire eye care service, including surgical and outpatient facilities.

Created to help reduce the waiting times for patients across the Highlands, the centre offers a bespoke uplifting environment designed with the full involvement of the clinical teams who work there as well as input from patients.

The eye care outpatient area has been designed in consultation with clinical teams to support patient care with a seamless patient pathway through the building, providing a welcoming and pleasant environment for our patients and staff.

Part of a national network of 10 treatment centres, funded by the Scottish Government and hosted by NHS Highland, the NTC was opened to patients in April 2023 and officially opened in June 2023 by the First Minister of Scotland, Humza Yousaf.

The NTC programme, announced by Scottish Government in 2015, aims to provide the highest standards of care through a network of modern, efficient NTCs each offering their own specialisations. The capacity the NTCs offer will help reduce waiting lists across Scotland.

Partnerships

Located within the 215-acre Inverness Campus site developed by Highlands and Islands Enterprise, NTC Highland is situated in a stunning, accessible, open green space alongside businesses, research and academia.

University of the Highlands and Islands

University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) - the presence on Inverness Campus of the Life Sciences Innovation Centre and the National Treatment Centre (Highland) will allow greater collaboration between NHS staff, researchers and businesses to innovate in the field of health and life sciences.

Highlands and Islands Enterprise

Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) is the developer of Inverness Campus where the National Treatment Centre (Highland) is located,  and is the Scottish Government’s economic and community development agency for the north and west of Scotland.

NHS Scotland Academy

The NHS Scotland Academy is an exciting partnership between NHS Golden Jubilee and NHS Education for Scotland offering accelerated training for a wide range of health and social care roles and professions.

Highlands Table café

The Highlands Table café is situated within the main entrance to the Centre. They provide the perfect environment for refreshments or a small snack. All profits go back into patient care.

Menus

Produce is locally sourced and food is made on the premises daily. Vegetarian and gluten free options are available.
