A virtual ward at Mid Argyll Community Hospital and Integrated Care Centre has been shortlisted for the Integrated Care Award at this year’s Scotland's Health Awards.
The winners will be announced on 7 November 2024.
Scotland's Health Awards celebrate excellence in healthcare, highlighting the outstanding achievements and contributions of individuals and teams across Scotland. Being shortlisted is a testament to the hard work and commitment of all professionals involved in the development of Mid Argyll virtual ward.
At any given moment, many patients with health conditions require thorough and active monitoring, treatment, and support. The virtual ward is designed to monitor and treat these patients while they remain in the comfort of their homes. It focuses on empowering individuals living independently and in supported community settings.
This innovative approach not only enhances resource allocation but also accelerates hospital discharge and facilitates quicker access to appropriate services.
Local Area Manager, Catriona Watt, who has been a part of the hospital's senior management team for over 4 years, shared her pride in the multidisciplinary team's achievement:
"Winning an award isn't the only thing that matters. It's about acknowledging the effort and commitment of every healthcare professional and support staff. We have created and are continuously enhancing a truly remarkable innovative virtual service, and I couldn't be prouder.”
As the excitement grows for the awards ceremony, the multidisciplinary team at Mid Argyll Community Hospital and Integrated Care Centre in Lochgilphead remains dedicated to improving patient outcomes and providing high-quality care. Regardless of the final result, their innovative approach has already had a significant impact on the lives of many patients, establishing a standard for integrated care services in Scotland and beyond. The commitment and collaboration among the team members are evident in every aspect of their work. From the seamless coordination between departments to the personalised attention given to each patient, the hospital exemplifies the best of modern healthcare practices.
Evan Beswick, Argyll and Bute HSCP Interim Chief Officer said: "It’s truly inspiring the numerous nominations for outstanding health care, and innovation presented by healthcare professionals throughout Scotland in this year's national shortlist. Given the impressive volume of nominations, I believe the national judging panel will have a tough job ahead in choosing the final winners."
