Update on Portree Urgent Care Centre

20th June 2024

NHS Highland met with representatives of SOS-NHS Skye this afternoon to discuss the recent progress on implementation of the Sir Lewis Ritchie recommendations from 2018 with a particular focus on urgent care provision in north Skye.

The Health Board shared a plan with the Scottish Government in May which outlined a proposed model of urgent care in the area.

Fiona Davies, NHS Highland’s Chief Executive, said: “We were pleased to meet with SOS-NHS Skye and discuss the plan we shared with the Scottish Government.

“We provided details of urgent care service provision moving forward and discussed the additional staffing we will put in place to support this model of care.

“We also discussed the Action Plan that we shared with the Scottish Government outlining the progress being made on Sir Lewis Ritchie’s recommendations and highlighted that we have established a Task and Finish group to ensure the focus on progress and completion of our actions is resolute.

“We understand the frustrations of the local community and we are committed to working closely with them to build services which meet the needs of Skye, Lochalsh and South West Ross both now and in the future.”
