Public urged to return unused walking aids to the Belford Hospital

24th May 2024
Belford Hospital staff with crutches Dr Sam Potter, Staff Nurse Savannah Parton and Staff Nurse Robin Downie are encouraging people in Lochaber to return unused walking aids.

Staff in the Emergency Department at Belford Hospital in Fort William are appealing to the public to return crutches and walking aids no longer being used.

The Emergency Department issues dozens of pairs of these vital pieces of equipment every day, and they are often never returned.

Dr Stephen Gilbert, NHS Highland’s Clinical Lead at the Belford Hospital, said: “These walking aids play a vital role in helping our patients to remain active during periods of recovery from injury and also people to remain active in their communities.

“They also require regular maintenance to ensure they are safe to use. We would appeal to anyone in Lochaber who has a crutch or walking aid that they no longer use or need to please return them to our Emergency Department at the Belford Hospital.

“We thank you for your continued support of your local hospital in Lochaber.”
