Phio the latest innovative digital product offers faster access to GP physiotherapy services across Argyll and Bute

Phio - the latest innovative digital product - offers faster access to GP physiotherapy services across Argyll and Bute.

The funding for a one-year trial of EQL's digital musculoskeletal (MSK) support product, Phio, has led to its launch throughout all general practices in Argyll and Bute.

Phio empowers people with MSK conditions by providing them with an interactive digital product that guides them towards the right care pathway. It is clinically supported and free to use.

The app provides a self-management program along with in-app clinical support from qualified physiotherapists. This service is available to individuals with health and MSK conditions who are suitable to engage with the latest technological innovation.

Phio will improve access to rural physiotherapy services within general practice, effectively reducing appointment waiting times and travel. The platform will reduce and support general practitioners' workload while enhancing the capacity of the First Contact Physiotherapy (FCP) service.

As part of this trial, Phio is available to all individuals aged 16 or over, residing in Argyll and Bute, who are registered with a GP practice and have an MSK condition. It is accessible 24 hours a day on any device that has an internet connection.

Derek Laidler, Argyll and Bute Lead Physiotherapist said: “It is with great pleasure that we announce the launch of this modern digital physiotherapy app to support General Practice. We recognise the importance of providing patients with immediate assistance when they need it.

"Phio will enhance the FCP service by offering prompt and simplified access to MSK physiotherapy care, information, and guidance. This will ensure that patients receive the appropriate care at the right time.

"This innovative solution will significantly strengthen the FCP service and improve patient outcomes. Individuals accessing the Phio digital platform can provide efficient and effective means of delivering support and services to patients. The app will allow MSK patients to receive support remotely, reducing waiting times and the need to travel to a clinic.

"Phio will positively impact patients' lives and we are pleased to be at the forefront of this transformational change in the delivery of physiotherapy care. It is important to highlight that the FCP service will not be changed, and the use of the Phio app is entirely optional for patients. It is an additional service that patients can choose to help improve their MSK condition and access to physiotherapy services.”

The FCP service and Argyll and Bute GPs are encouraging individuals presenting with MSK conditions to take full advantage of the opportunity to engage with modern digital MSK technology through Phio.

Patients can speak to their GP practice about using Phio or can find out more about First Contact Physiotherapy and Phio.
