Following a meeting with community representatives on 7 March, NHS Highland have underlined the Board’s commitment to the redesign of health and social care services in Lochaber.
The Board is determined to work with communities in the area to build on the positive work that has already been done in the redesign process, and commends community members for resilience in pushing forward.
Sarah Compton-Bishop, NHS Highland Chair said: "We understand the frustration that many people feel about the pause on capital funding, as they have worked extremely hard on the project for a long time. We want to reassure communities across Lochaber that we are listening, and that we will work in partnership to design and develop community services that meet the needs of the community both now and in the future.
"We are committed to ensuring their efforts will not be in vain and are working to develop our plans for the new hospital in Lochaber to a stage where we can be ready when funding becomes available."
Pam Dudek, NHS Highland Chief Executive said: "It is really important that we understand the concerns of local communities and ensure we work closely with them to meet their needs."
Fiona Davies, incoming NHS Highland Chief Executive added: "I want to reassure the community in Lochaber that this work remains a key priority.
"We are pleased to confirm that the Highland Council has agreed to retain the Blar Mhor site for the new hospital in Fort William. This is positive news and we will continue to develop our plans for the new hospital to a stage where we can be ready when the funding becomes available."
