Argyll and Bute Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) currently has a business-to-business contract with the Jura GP practice to cover the out of hours service for the island. This contract will be coming to an end on 31 March 2023.
The current GPs will still remain on the island and will provide in hours services for the community however they will no longer be offering out of hours services.
The HSCP is currently working on a number of potential options that would provide a community-based out of hours emergency medical service for the island and we will shortly be engaging with the local community on these options.
Until a new model is designed, in collaboration with community members and other relevant parties, we will be providing a similar service using locum GPs based on the island of Jura. As normal, we would ask the local community that if they require out of hours urgent care can they call NHS24 on 111 and they will direct you to the most appropriate care. If it is an emergency then please call 999 as per usual.
We would like to thank the Jura GPs for their ongoing hard work and commitment to the local community and we look forward to continuing to work with them.
Notes for editors
Out of hours Primary Care (sometimes called GP Out of Hours) is care provided at times when your general practice is closed. It covers 1800-0800 Monday to Friday, and all day Saturday and Sunday, plus public holidays. It is for illnesses or injuries which cannot wait until your practice opens the next working day. If it is an emergency then you should call 999.
