Public Health Specialist Alison McGrory has been appointed Associate Director of Public Health for Argyll and Bute Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP).
Alison completed a degree in molecular biology at the University of Glasgow and joined the NHS in Argyll and Clyde in 1994, working first in learning and development and health and safety roles, before moving into public health in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. In 2010 she took up the post of Health Improvement Principal in Argyll and Bute returning to live in her hometown of Campbeltown. She has continued with further education throughout her career and in 2020 qualified as a Public Health Specialist with the UKPHR.
Alison McGrory said: “I’m really pleased to be taking on this exciting role, I am looking forward to continuing to work with a range of partners across all sectors and local communities to improve health, prevent ill health, and address inequalities across Argyll and Bute. I am especially delighted to be doing this in Argyll where the people and our communities mean the world to me.
“I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to my predecessor Dr Nicola Schinaia. His professional leadership has given our Public Health team a secure foundation for me to take forward.”
The Associate Public Health Director is accountable for the delivery of public health agendas. They are principal advisers on all public health matters with a leadership role spanning public health, health improvement and health protection. They have a vital professional role to protect and improve the health of the population.
