Sarah Taylor and Sandie Shaw are both part of the Reablement Team supporting patients in Helensburgh and Lomond.
Sarah is a Reablement Occupational Therapist and Sandie is part of the Reablement Support Team. They’ve been working for Argyll and Bute Health and Social Care Partnership for 18 months, after starting within a few weeks of each other.
Reablement is an Occupational Therapy-led service across Argyll and Bute, providing wide ranging support options to patients within the community and at their homes. It’s designed to help patients gain or regain their confidence and necessary skills to live independently after an illness, deterioration in health or injury. Support is usually provided for up to 8 weeks and is tailored to individual needs.
Patients are encouraged to set and achieve goals with the support of the reablement team. Sarah’s role involves doing initial patient assessments and working with patients to put their treatment plan together before Sandie helps patients to deliver their plan and achieve their goals.
The team in Helensburgh includes occupational therapists, physiotherapists and health care support workers, and is supported by community nurses and social workers. Working together alongside patients and their families, the service aims to provide effective intervention for all our patients receiving reablement within our community.
Sarah Taylor, Reablement Occupational Therapist, said: "Being a Reablement Occupational Therapist gives me great satisfaction as it allows me to enable people to live as independently as they can for as long as they can."
Sandie Shaw, Reablement Support Worker added: "I enjoying being a Reablement Support Worker as its very rewarding to provide support, encouragement and motivation to allow patients to reach their maximum potential while on their reablement journey."
Joanne Gray, Team Lead, concluded by saying: “The reablement team in Helensburgh and Lomond work very hard, providing a patient-led approach. This tailored approach allows the patient to take control of their recovery, supported by a great team.”
Argyll and Bute HSCP's vision is that people in Argyll and Bute will live longer, healthier and independent lives.
